Selection Assistance

SAP has a rather unique situation. You can not travel down the aisles in our shelter and pick out the animal that appeals to you most. This is because we do not have a shelter at this time. We do rescue local cats, and often have cats and kittens that are available for adoption. However, when we transport a load from Virginia they typically come in 40-50 at a time.  A large percentage are distributed to our shelter connections and will be available at their facilities for adoption.

We also adopt animals out ourselves. Occasionally we will just have a single animal or two in foster, but quite often you will be sent photos of animals arriving on a transport load. You then can choose an animal that appeals to you and we will hold that animal in your name for delivery day.  "How can you choose from a picture?"  That is a good question. I will only email you the pictures and descriptions that might match up with what you are looking for, and slowly we will eliminate the odds.  Sounds like the old TV game the Match Maker doesn't it? It does feel that way some days.  But believe it or not, the system works the majority of the time, and often times the results are magical.

Occasionally the adopter gets there, and the animal was not the right fit for the folks. You are not obligated to take the animal home, it is purely a way to try to sort a dog for each person to view and meet as a prospective family member. It usually turns out there are a couple extras and most of the time when all the sorting and greetings are done everyone has the right match for them.

I can also look for specific dogs from a large block of animals to find you the right pet. Everyone has their own ideal vision in their head and we hope among the animals moved into our program as well as that of four other facilities, we will be able to help guide you to the right one.

Good luck in your search and let us know if we can answer any other questions you may have. Rescue is a wonderful thing and to many of these animals being moved to New England is their only option at life.

Animals are still euthanized on a regular basis in the south due to the overpopulation issues that they still need to fix as a society. The lack of leash laws, and large hunting community in the south leads to even more issues for them that are hard to overcome. Our goal is to make a real impact on this one area of the south through our transport work.

Thank you for chosing a rescue animal,  they will spend their whole lives thanking you for the opportunity.
